10 More Move's You May Have Missed
let's take a look at another 10 moves you might have missed during this window
10 - Ricardo Quaresma Free Agent to Vitória Guimarães
Ricardo Quaresma is on the move again the legendary Portuguese winger part of A Seleção’s famous Euro 2016 triumph returns home to Portugal, joins Braga based side Vitória. Quaresma spent 5 years in Turkey with Beşiktaş and Kasımpaşa and will be hoping to help Vitória return to European football after a disappointing 7th place finish last season.
9 - Saido Berahino Zulte Waregem to Sporting Charleroi (Loan)
You actually may have missed Saido Berahino’s first move to Belgium when he joined Zulte Waregem from Stoke City in 2019, after a season he’s now made the switch to Charleroi. The once highly-rated England youngster is now 27 years old, captain of the Burundi national team and will be hoping to once again find his goal-scoring touch at The Zebras.
8 - Davy Klaassen Werder Bremen to Ajax
Ajax really have been depleted since they made it to the Champions League semifinal before Lucas Moura, Tottenham Hotspur broke the Dutch champions hearts in the dying minutes. Since then they have lost De Ligt, De Jong, Van de Beek, Schöne & Ziyech. Although Ajax has a truly frightening ability at recruiting and developing and already have future stars in their rank breaking through like Antony, Ryan Gravenberch & Perr Schuurs. Amongst all the outgoings and young prospects being snapped up one you may have missed is former Ajax player Davy Klaassen’s return to Amsterdam after his spells with Everton, Werder Bremen.
7 - Theo Walcott Everton to Southampton (Loan)
Since we are getting sentimental let's look at another homecoming you possibly missed. Long believed to be the heir to Thierry Henry Theo Walcott had a good career at Arsenal 12 years,270 appearances & 2 FA Cups. The expectations and pressure that comes with being labelled as Henry’s successor is always going to be a cross to bear for anyone and sadly Walcott moved on to Everton in 2018 not reaching the same heights as Thierry. Walcott will now be heading back to St Mary's where it all started joining Southampton on loan from Everton for the 2020-2021 season.
6 - Jérémy Doku Anderlecht to Stade Rennais
Stade Rennais in recent years have been upping their game when it comes to younger players producing Ousmane Dembélé, Abdoulaye Doucouré & Eduardo Camavinga, also acquiring gifted youngsters like Raphinha from Sporting who moved onto Leeds United this summer, new signing from Amiens Serhou Guirassy who has started life well in Normandy. A transfer I can’t believe I missed was Jérémy Doku fresh from making his Belgium debut at only 18, looking like he was set for another season in Anderlecht made the switch to become Rennes most expensive signing ever as a late replacement for Raphinha.
5 - Yasuhito Endō Gamba Osaka to Júbilo Iwata (Loan)
A move most people definitely missed outside of Japan was Japanese Legend and all-time most capped Japanese player Yasuhito Endō leaving Gamba Osaka who he joined in 2001, was only five games shy of 600 appearances. Endō has joined Júbilo Iwata until 31st of January 2021 so perhaps he can still get to 600 for Gamba.
4 - Freddy Adu Free Agent to Österlen FF
Everyone’s one favourite Football Manager wonder kid Freddy Adu is back on the move. Now 31 years old the American who played 17 times for the US men's national team joined his 15th club Swedish third division side Österlen after two years of not playing football. some of the clubs Adu has played for include the likes of DC United, Benfica, Monaco, Belenenses.
3 - Lucas Paquetá AC Milan to Lyon
AC Milan cut their loses on Lucas Paquetá this summer the young Brazilian midfielder who I rate a lot played one and a half seasons in Milan after being bought for €38 million from Flamengo. Let go for only €20 million this is one to look out for perhaps the change of team will show the Lucas Paquetá that a lot of people haven’t seen yet or perhaps Stefano Pioli was right to let Paquetá go.
2 - Artur Boruc Bournemouth to Legia Warsaw
Artur Boruc played the last eight seasons in the South Coast of England between both Southampton and Bournemouth, at 40 years old you’d be surprised to learn he’s still going strong joining the club he’s always supported Legia Warsaw. Boruc will be hoping to win himself another Ekstraklasa title something he hasn’t done since the 2001-2002 season.
1 - Arjen Robben Retirement to FC Groningen
Yes, I am sure some of you may have seen this but there’s bound to be a few who missed this one or forgot, it isn’t something that happens everyday Ajen Robben actually retired from football last year after his decade long love affair with Bayern Munich. A career that most people could only dream of winning major title’s in the Netherlands, England, Spain & Germany a Champions League winners medal, played in a World Cup final. Arjen Robben really did it all and the final curtain was drawn but we all wanted an encore and an encore we got and for probably the last time ever we will see Arjen Robben on a football pitch back home where it all began at Groningen.
